Types of Factories

A Guide for Design of Factories

The design of factories are more complex than the design of small multi-purpose workshops. Factories are generally used for large building structures and used mainly for manufacturing and production facilities. Such factory buildings can include Bottling Plant, Cement Plant, Fertilizer Plant, Car Assembly. Factories are usually single storey portal frame structure, although in multi-storey factories are also common in some countries where land is expensive.

If you are more into the design of small multi-purpose industrial building check out our section on Types of Workshops.

This section will look at several structural design guidelines for Factories. Note that you may need to work with an Architect who will prepare the architectural drawings while as a structural engineer, you tasks would be to provide structural engineering aspects.
