Application for Bomba OP or Fire Fitness Certificate
The following lists the procedure of How to Apply for Bomba Fitness Certificate for Buildings in
Malaysia :-
Step 1 Assuming the Drawings had been approved by BOMBA, and the Letter of Approval
already issued to Consultants. If not, Check Out How to Submit Building Drawings and
Obtain Approval from BOMBA.
The first step is to ensure that you have all the following documents in your possession, and if not make a
visit to the Consultants, Architect, or Engineer and Contactors & vendors to obtain copies and
references.
- The Approval Letter which shows the File Reference & Date such as:
* Ruj Kami: JMPM:SK/ZB/005/3/8/73
* Tarikh: 17 Discember 2007
- The Bomba Approved & Stamped Drawings which will show all the Fire Fittings
such as Fire Doors, Emergency Lightings, Exit Signs, Fire Extinguishers, Hose Reels, Emergency Fire Pumps, etc,
etc.
- The Blue Form, Forms C1, C2, C3.
- The Blue Form "Perakuan Pemasangan Peralatan dan Sistem Kebombaan" is to be orginally signed
& stamped by the Consultants, the Architect one set, and Engineer one set separately. The
Consultants are also required to originally signed & stamped Form C3 separately, One for Each
Fitting Types, so if there are 5 fittings, you would need 5 sets.
- The Fire Fittings Contractor, Suppliers or Vendors should complete Forms C1 & C2, signed
& stamped, one for each Fitting, so if 5 fittings, then you would need 5 sets.
- The Contractor, Vendor need to also supply the Fire Fittings Certificates.
- Form for Schedule of Payment "Permohonan Pemeriksaan dan Ujuan" to be filled by Contractot or
Vendor bringing Bomba personnel to site.
Step 2 The Consultants, Architect and Engineer separately write an original letter to
BOMBA enclosing all the above Step 1 original documents, calling for Inspection for Fire Fitness.
You would also need to enclose a Local Cheque or Cash Payment for Bomba Inspection & Testing, latest rates
to check with Bomba, something like RM5 per fitting, and RM100/ per building, etc. If in doubt visit Bomba office
and ask them to calculate for you and just pay on the spot is easier, so you would not make the mistake of having
to redo the forms or the cheque.
Step 3 After submissions of the above, you would need to coordinate a date and time
to suit Bomba personnel for a Joint Inspection of the building premises, and be prepared to do field tests, so all
the Contractors personnel, fire fittings vendors need be present. Consultants representative is preferred to be in
attendance but not necessarily required as the Contractor, Vendors will do all necessary tests & briefings
on their systems.
Step 4 If everything is tested funtional, then Bomba will issue the Fire Fitness
Certificate. If not, Bomba will advise retification works and reinspection & retesting would be required.
Comment In general Bomba is very efficient and co-operative department unlike some
Local Authorities, and feed back from Consultants, Contractors & vendors are positive. Compliance to Approved
Drawings is the name of the game and these are in reference to the Malaysian Uniform Building Bylaws, and subject
to BOMBA rules and requlations, which can vary from time to time.
It is therefore a good practice that if you need to submit Drawings for Approval or to Call for inspections, a
visit to the department is helpful.
The above procedure is as currently practiced by Bomba. Do come back to this site for any updates which we will
post should Bomba procedures change from time to time.
